ACM Designs is hiring a skilled carpenter
ACM Designs is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in carpentry to assist on-site during the construction process of our projects. This position exists to implement and execute construction elements of projects managed by ACM Designs. This position assists with the on-site demolition, fabrication and installation of finish carpentry, cabinetry, painting, drywalling, flooring, tiling, framing, insulation, and other duties as required. Reports directly to the Site Supervisor for daily tasks and indirectly to the Construction Manager for overall project coordination and direction. Working collaboratively with all staff at ACM Designs, suppliers and contractors, this position is responsible for performing construction duties, analyzing construction plans, following clients’ specifications, completing the project within the agreed timeframe and budget goals, and ensuring the highest quality and client’s satisfaction. With demonstrated experience in carpentry and construction and strong attention to detail, this position efficiently creates the finished product by inspecting project sites, performing adjustments as needed, repairing defects and inconsistencies, and adhering to all safety standards and protocols while always presenting a positive appearance and handling clients in a professional and approachable way.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the duties and responsibilities of the Carpenter include, but are not limited to, the following:
Report to and take direction from the Site Supervisor;
Work with the Site Supervisor to ensure all job site projects are completed on schedule;
Post safety boards and permits at job sites;
Prepare sites for various trades/specialists;
Maintain good relations with suppliers and contractors;
Visit various job sites daily/weekly;
Follow provided plans and specifications for important details for each project;
Ensure job sites are clean, safe and secure at all times as well as protecting the clients’ possessions, children and pets;
Operate various hand and power tools;
On site construction tasks may include but are not limited to demolition, finish carpentry, painting, drywalling, flooring, tiling, framing, insulation, etc.;
Receive materials on site and transport goods to job sites;
Organize and assist with inventory;
Assist other trades on job sites as needed;
Take accurate site measurements - including final measurements for millwork;
Assemble and set up furniture;
Assist in final project finishes (hang artwork, mirrors, decor, shelves, etc.);
Update, monitor and complete items on audit lists/deficiency list;
Comply with all company policies;
Maintain a presentable appearance and approachable demeanour while representing ACM Designs in a professional manner;
Participate in all safety training sessions;
Attend all Monday morning office meetings and construction meetings- contribute as required;
Maintain all tools, equipment, vehicles, and machinery;
Work collaboratively with all staff at ACM Designs throughout the project and provide job site updates including taking photos and videos;
Take all waste and disposal from job sites and office to landfill;
Anticipate problems/issues and work with Site Supervisor to come up with solutions;
Monitor and adhere to carpentry schedule to ensure projects remain on time;
Ensure you have the tools & equipment they need to complete tasks effectively. Report to Site Supervisor any missing items if necessary;
Repairing or replacement of tools or PPE as necessary;
Daily record of tasks completed and daily communication with the Site Supervisor regarding the progress of the project, including any client concerns, problems, delays, etc.;
Adhere to safe working practices, and perform work appropriately for site conditions;
Hold yourself and others to the highest quality standards with a thoughtful approach to sustainability and energy efficiency;
Be available during work hours to answer questions from anyone on site, employees, sub-trades, clients, refer to Site Supervisor for confirmation;
Learn and perform advanced carpentry techniques and standards;
Stay updated with the latest trends in the industry; and
Travel with provided vehicle to various project sites, suppliers, training, etc. as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 5 years residential construction experience
Able to work under pressure, independently and take initiative
Able to accomplish tasks with little supervision
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Able to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
Able to make confident and correct decisions on site
Able to see projects through from inception to production
Able to pivot and change plans/direction quickly
Consistency in quality workmanship regardless of project size
Problem management
Motivation to maintain and improve design standards
Willingness to listen to feedback and use it to improve
Good organizational skills that support the rest of the team
A background working as part of or with a design team is an asset

Experience with Millwork (custom cabinetry) is an asset

Knowledge on how to read construction drawings and plans
A strong understanding of construction and design terminology
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Knowledge in the following software tools is an asset: Mac operating System, Pages, Numbers, Email & ClickUP
