Director of Care

Location: Centennial Place Long Term Care Home - Millbrook, Ontario

As a member of our senior management team, the Director of Care (DOC) will influence how services are delivered, apply their nursing skills to the fullest, and truly make a difference in the lives of our residents. Reporting to the Administrator, the DOC oversees the delivery of nursing and care services to our residents. The DOC leads and directs the entire care team, including nurses and personal support workers, ensuring that our high standards are achieved or exceeded.

The DOC will also:

• Oversee the development and execution of Care Plans for our residents, coordinate care delivery with physicians and other care providers, and advocate on behalf of residents and their families
• Helps to develop and implement policies and procedures, completes quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards.
• Participate in the care department’s budget preparation and maintains appropriate controls over resources according to the policies and procedures of the organization and the funding available
• Manages the care department staff including selection, development, and motivation of staff through ongoing coaching, training, and performance monitoring
• Ensure that policies and procedures are implemented and high-quality standards are maintained in compliance with the Long-Term Care Act, RNAO Best Practices Guidelines, and Code of Ethics
• Promotes effective communication within the department and throughout the Home and stays current with developments in nursing and geriatric care.

Qualifications:

• Current license as Registered Nurse from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• 3-5 years experience, preferably in a long-term care or retirement setting
• Previous supervisory experience required
• Composure, demonstrated leadership skills, and sound judgment a must
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be available to respond to on-call and emergency needs outside of normal working hours
